Everyone involved with the supply and use of Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) will know that it has been deemed to be 'hazardous to health' and as such new regulations have evolved over recent years to restrict or prohibit its use for training, testing and, in the case of C8 chain AFFF firefighting too.
Following recent discussions with subject matter experts in the UK and EU, it is now clear that the C6 chain AFFF product will follow a similar fate for training and testing and whilst it was initially seen as a 'less hazardous' product, the root issues still exist, and these have been detailed in previous news releases.
In the background, foam concentrate manufacturers have been undertaken a great deal of research and development to create a 'fluorine free' foam concentrate that is also compatible with existing firefighting equipment.
Maritime Aviation are hosting a webinar with subject matter experts that will present the current issues and challenges along with what actions shipyards and yachts should take to to transition to non-fluorinated foam concentrates. This is not just a simple act of swapping out one product for another, consideration must be given to ensure all foam storage and delivery equipment has been decontaminated before the non-fluorinated product is introduced.
This important webinar is on Monday 15th April 2024 at 10:30am UK time. Find out more and register here
